Automatic Order Splitting for Backorders
Automatic order splitting for backorders simplifies fulfillment when an order includes both in-stock and out-of-stock items.
When this feature is enabled, B2B Wave automatically separates backordered items into a new order. This allows available products to ship without delay and reduces manual order handling.
NOTE: Contact our support team to enable this feature on your account.
How Automatic Order Splitting Works
When a customer places an order that contains items on backorder, B2B Wave automatically splits the order based on product availability.
Specifically:
- In-stock items remain in the original order
- Backordered items are moved to a separate order
- Each order can be processed and fulfilled independently
Enabling Automatic Order Splitting for Backorders
To use automatic order splitting, follow these steps:
Step 1. Go to Settings >Profile and select the “Application Configuration” tab.
Step 2. Check the “Allow backordering for specific products” and “Manage stock levels for products” boxes in the “Inventory” section. Then, click “Save.”

Automatic Order Splitting in Action
Automatic order splitting occurs only when an order contains both in-stock and backordered items. In this example, a customer places an order in which the quantities for certain products are unavailable.

Once the customer completes checkout, two separate orders are created in the Orders menu.

Specifically, admin users will see:
- One order containing all in-stock items

- One order containing the backordered items
